Thirteen Days and Counting...

So...

Luke has his motorbike license and I don't. My test was on the 18th of May and I failed. The test is split into two parts and the first involves controlled biking in a parking lot (figure of 8's, slalom, u-turn, etc..). One of the other tests is a emergency stop where you have to reach 50 km/h. I reached 48 km/h and he asked me to do it again, so I did. Again, I only reached 48 km/h. So he failed me before even taking me out onto the road.

Wow - what a shock. I've driven around India on a motorbike for two months and I can't even pass a test in England. What to do now? Well... I have a CBT (Compulsary Basic Trainning), but, with this, I would be limited to a 125cc motorbike. That may be good from the point of view that it's easier to handle in sand, mud et al, though I was really hoping for at least at least a Yamaha AG 200 or XT350. We will have to see.

With only just over thirteen days till we depart I am debating whether it is worth redoing my test. If I do pass it will take two weeks to arrive by post. By then, we would already be in Jo'burg.

In other news, I have bought an LED wind up lamp - brilliant. That way if we have endless light even if we run out of batteries. It was a bargain at half-price, so I didn't miss the oppertunity.

We also managed to get our hands on a Canon Video Camera for the trip. Thats probably the best news at the moment! Luke also has most of his visas. We will both get our one for Egypt when he arrives in England on the 27th - less than a week away. I have none, I am currently getting my Kenyan visa. Then I will get my Zambian. We will buy our Tanzanian visas at the border, I will buy my visa for Ethiopia at the border and a fixer in Sudan should be working on our visa which we should be able to pick up in Addis Abba, Ethiopia. That's the situation on that front.

Once we fly to South Africa and when Luke is England we will start adding a lot more photos to the blog, hope all this writing isn't boring you all too much.

If you have questions/advice/contacts in africa along the way/suggestions PLEASE do not hesitate to get intouch...

Take care lads and lasses
